The Sparkassen Indoor Meeting Dortmund is an indoor athletics meeting that was held annually in the Helmut-Körnig-Halle in Dortmund between 1995 and 2004. Every year, top international athletics was on offer and 4500 spectators in a sold-out venue created a fantastic atmosphere.
Two world records and a European record were even set at those events: The Romanian Gabriela Szabo ran a new world indoor record over 5000 meters in 1999, a year later the young Yuriy Borzakovskiy ran a new U20 indoor world record over 800 meters with 1:44.35 minutes. And another year later, the Russian Svetlana Feofanova set a new European record in the pole vault with 4.64 meters. There were also several german records to celebrate, including Danny Ecker's 6.00 meters in the pole vault, which still stands today. The Dortmund Indoor Meeting has always been one of the best indoor athletics meetings in the world in the world federation rankings.
In 2018, the club LG Olympia Dortmund continued the tradition of Dortmund's indoor athletics meetings and revived the Dortmund Indoor Meeting as a national indoor sports festival. 2150 enthusiastic spectators watched ten exciting disciplines, from fast sprints with and without hurdles to the middle distances, long jump and pole vault. Competitors included Gina Lückenkemper, Pamela Dutkiewicz and Malaika Mihambo. One year later, the organizers welcomed 3120 spectators to the Helmut-Körnig-Halle and witnessed, among other things, an exciting duel in the 60-meter hurdles between European champion Elwira Herman (Belarus) and European runner-up Pamela Dutkiewicz, decathlon king Arthur Abele in the men's 60-meter hurdles and Gesa Krause and Alina Reh in the 1500 meters.
The Helmut-Körnig-Halle was extensively renovated between March and November 2019. Among other things, the circular track was extended from four to six lanes, new stands were built and new lighting and a new sound system were installed.
