Joshua Hartmann, the fastest man in Germany over 200 meters, will face first-class international competition at the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting in Dortmund on 18 January 2025. The 25-year-old will compete in the 60 meters at the Helmut-Körnig-Halle.
Joshua Hartmann has long since written himself into the history books of German sport with his outstanding performances. Last year, he set a new German record over 200 meters with a time of 20.02 seconds - a mark that has yet to be equalled. But Hartmann not only shines on the half lap of the stadium.
He is also one of the absolute top athletes on the shorter sprint distances. The 25-year-old proved this at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France), where he reached the semi-finals in the 100 and 200 meters and impressively demonstrated his class on the biggest stage in athletics.
“Sprinting is the purest form of competition,” explains Hartmann. “It's extremely measurable and comparable - everyone can see immediately who is the fastest. That's exactly what fascinates me. Man against man, where the smallest mistake can decide everything.”
At the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting, Hartmann will face top-class opponents who will demand everything from him. One of his strongest rivals is the Swede Henrik Larsson, a proven 60-meter specialist who won bronze at the 2023 European Indoor Championships and finished fifth at the 2024 World Indoor Championships. Despite a disqualification last year in Dortmund, he is regarded as a dangerous opponent with explosive starts.
The American Coby Hilton, who is one of the absolute world leaders with a personal best of 6.51 seconds, will also be taking part. His compatriot ZaChaeus Beard, who is only just behind Hilton with a best time of 6.54 seconds, will also challenge Hartmann in Dortmund. The strong field of participants is rounded off by Dutchman Joris van Gool, an experienced and consistently fast sprinter and permanent guest in Dortmund, who is always good for a surprise.
“The sprint has traditionally been one of the highlights in Dortmund,” says Yoshi Müller, Head of Organization of the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting. “We are delighted that we were able to sign Joshua Hartmann. He knows that our track is fast.” Spectators can look forward to thrilling duels and exciting fractions of a second when the sprinters give each other nothing away in the Helmut-Körnig-Halle.
